Jamie At LMH

What was Jamie like during treatment?

Amy Benson, Jamie Pursley, Julie Ryser,
and Kelli Alldredge at the Susan G. Komen
3 day, 60 mile walk. San Diego, Nov 2010
I will never forget the times I would walk down the hall in the infusion center and hear raucous laughter coming from behind a closed door - I was usually correct in guessing that Jamie and her friends were in that room! However, there were also times that Jamie came alone and worked on her computer. She was so open and fun to talk to, even when she did not feel well. I will never forget the conversations I had with Jamie during her treatments - we could talk about anything!! - Dr. Sharon Soule - Lawrence Memorial Hospital

Jamie was an amazing young woman! She was such an inspiration to everyone who met her. She radiated with love and hope. She had a fighting spirit and never gave in to her disease. Even at the end of her life, she was in control. I personally will never forget her beauty, inside and out. She was passionate about her love for her family and huge circle of friends. If I was ever in her situation, she would be my role model for how I would want to live my life and be remembered. - Stephanie, RN OCN - Lawrence Memorial Hospital

Jamie was always gracious, kind, positive during treatment. Always said hello and willing to talk, never saw her in a down mood, even when she wasn't feeling well at all. It's hard not to remember the younger patients that we lose, and Jamie was so active in community events. She had a beautiful bald head, really, not everyone can carry it off like she did, and she never seemed self conscious about it. Some patients feel it is a neon sign "I have cancer" but Jamie never seemed uncomfortable with it. - Julie, RN, OCN - Lawrence Memorial Hospital

What I loved about Jamie most was her courage. She met her battle head on and did not shy from it. This being said, however, it didn't take away from the fact that she was honest and willing to be vulnerable about its difficulties. I think this was best exampled in her video of her head being shaved. She was courageous and wise enough to have her daughter be a part of it and allowed herself to cry with strength. I also admired the way she LIVED LIFE up until the very end. She let nothing rob her and I'm grateful. - Jill, Office Coordinator - Lawrence Memorial Hospital

What do you remember most about her?

I remember so vividly Jamie's undying spirit and positive attitude. I remember her laugh and her smile that absolutely lit up a room. I remember how much she loved Aaron, her daughter, and her entire family. The first time I met Jamie, as we were discussing her cancer, she said "I know there are other women who have more difficult situations than I do. At least I got to have Kayden!" She never asked "Why me? She just made the best of her situation and lived life to its fullest. I remember how Jamie always had a different friend or family member who wanted to come to each appointment and it was obvious how much they all loved and cared about her. - Dr. Sharon Soule - Lawrence Memorial Hospital

Why did she leave such a lasting impression on the staff at LMH?

During her cancer journey, Jamie exemplified courage, determination, beauty and grace. My life was enriched because of the footprint she left on our lives. - Jana Farmer - Lawrence Memorial Hospital
