Click play to watch the story behind Jamie's Wish

Jamie Barkes Pursley had a wish.

After battling breast cancer for five years, Jamie wanted to make a difference in the lives of other cancer patients, those who would face the same battle she had. Ironically, Jamie, an avid Kansas State fan, spent the last year of her treatment in Lawrence, KS, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital (LMH). Even though Jamie never imagined herself in Jayhawk Country, she found out quickly that we are all in this battle together. She fell in love with Lawrence and the staff at LMH and spent countless hours in the infusion rooms where she would spend half or all of a day receiving chemotherapy or other treatments.

Jamie's final and lasting wish was to renovate these rooms and turn them into a refuge, not a hospital. She had learned that every second various solutions are being pumped into cancer patients veins, they are aware of the life and death battle they are in. This is the physical and emotional battleground for cancer patients. Jamie wanted to minimize this suffering the patients experience and maximize the comfort they need, while giving patients a sense of peace and hope.

Jamie's wish turned out to be her last one; we lost Jamie on March 29, 2011. That is when her KSU friends went to work to honor Jamie's wish and to help make LMH a better place for the Lawrence community and every cancer patient who comes through their doors.

On the field we may be rivals, but off of it, Jayhawks and Wildcats can come together as one to help make a difference.

Thank you so much for visiting this site to learn more about Jamie and her wish. Please make a tax deductible donation to our cause. Our overall fundraising goal is approximately $100,000. We need your help to make Jamie's wish come true! The true recipients of Jamie's wish will be the countless cancer patients who enter the LMH Oncology Center for years to come.
